SRGC OPEN 2014

SRGC OPEN 2014.

Saturday 23rd of august saw 66 competitors play in the 9th SRGC Open at the Hope.

The weather was far from perfect with a stiff NW’ly breeze and some very sharp heavy showers passing through giving a very autumnal feel to the day.

The course was soft and therefore preferred lies had to be allowed.

This year heralded a new layout with the competition using the new tee’s. Something that all the competitors seemed to have enjoyed with a lot of very good feedback coming in.

The weather over the last 2 weeks gave the greens staff a challenge getting the course ready but they rose to this and presented it to the best standard they could given the circumstances.

As the scores began to come in it became obvious that the conditions of the day were proving to be tricky, that said we saw a few in the mid 60’s.

Players returning from their round were then dispatched to the Murray’s for lunch and were treated to an excellent plate of Haddock and chips or ham salad followed by pudding.

Thank you to Graham and his team for this.

After lunch players returning to the club began playing in the hotly contested putting competition which continued right into the evening.

The ladies section provided teas, soup and rolls throughout the day, something that was well appreciated by all.

By 6:30 all the groups were home and the scores were being toted up with the presentation and raffle proceeding once the last groups had returned from the Murrays.

The overall champion for 2014 was Bruce Moar with an excellent Gross 70.

Adrian Stanger took the Best nett trophy with a net 63, beating Michael Kemp on count back.

Taking the remaining prizes were – in the 0-9 h/c section – 1st B Reeve (68), 2nd E Brown (69), 3rd S M Fotheringhame (69). In the 10-19h/c section – 1st M Kemp (63), 2nd R Stanger (65), 3rd A Donaldson (65). In the 20 -28h/c section – 1st R Spence (64), 2nd R Peace (65), 3rd G Miller (67).

Closest to the pin prizes went to J Graham  closest in one shot at th 6/15th and to B Corsie for closest in 2 shots at the 9/18th.

Finally the putting………… with an excellent 18 R Stanger.
