Captains Prize

Sunday saw a new era in the short history of South Ronaldsay Golf Club with the first ever play off the new tees which gives the club an 18 Tee – 9 Hole course configuration.

After the first ball was struck off the 10th tee by Club Captain Keith Nicol play got under way in the Captains Prize competition.

20 golfers took part in warm sunny conditions which would have been good if it was not for the strong south easterly wind, which made some of the uphill holes very long indeed. Despite this the scoring was pretty close with 6 scores returned in the mid to high 60’s but George Coltherds 64 give him the outright win 2 strokes clear of Geoff Linnet and Jim Bews, both with 66. George’s gross of 82 gave him the lowest gross score too.

The new tees, which create a shorter back 9 with slight changes in the approaches to fairway and green, proved to be a hit with all who played and we look forward to the forth coming Texas Scramble and July Medal which will also use the new layout.
