SRGC Open 2016 report
Saturday 20th August saw 49 golfers take part in this years SRGC OPEN although the entry was down a good bit on previous years that didn’t deter the competition between the competitors.
There was challenging conditions throughout the day with wind and rain for the early starters followed by a calmer but very misty spell with low visibility mid way through the day then the wind increased again for the later starters.
Due to the recent rain the course was soft and preferred lies had to be adopted.
As the scores started to come in it was apparent that the going was stiff but then, as seems to be the way, an unbelievable score came in with Richie Ballantyne carding a net 60 when he returned in the early afternoon. This score stood all day with net 64’s from Eddie Brown and Neil Tait being the closest to Richie. Neil gross score of 71 comfortably saw him secure the overall victory and the trophy.
All in all the competitors had a good day of golf, despite the conditions, and were then treated to a lovely meal at the Murray Arms after their round.
As usual the putting competition was hotly contested and went to a 4 way play off with Robbie Norquoy coming out the winner.
Now for the thanks and there are many. So thank you to all who gave up time to help prepare the course, including Ben Lacy-Brown who has done well in his role as green-keeper this season, thank you also go to the folk who were on hand throughout the day to help out and who donated raffles and food with out you all we would struggle to host the event, also thanks to the Murrays for the excellent food and finally to the golfers who came, played and for some conquered our challenging little course because without you there would be no SRCG Open.
