On Sunday 12th June, South Ronaldsay Golf Club once again played host to the Pipedream Plumbing Open. Bright conditions overhead, however a very breezy day made for some tough conditions for the entrants chasing glory. Although not the biggest entry we have seen, it was as competitive as ever.
Glenn Grange set the pace early on with a brilliant 64 net (79 gross) to be both Gross and Net leader in the clubhouse. Not to be outdone, Chris George played his usual steady golf and posted a 63 net (76 gross) to take his place at the summit of the leaderboard.
In the Gross Section, Dennis Harvey continued his fine form on the South Isles course this season with a fantastic 73 gross, putting to bed the age old saying that you ‘never want to birdie the 1st’The hunt was on but conditions proved to be too difficult for the rest of the field. Dennis running out eventual Gross winner.
We cannot express our thanks to Andy from Pipedream Plumbing enough, he has always been a great supporter of the club and once again outdone himself with the generous prizes on offer.
Thanks also must go to the Ladies, who in-between playing their open, kept the men fed and watered. Thanks to those who made soup, pulled pork and mince, to those who donated raffles and to Derek for having the course in very good condition!
Net result – 1st Chris George, 2nd Derek Ward, 3rd Stuart Barnett
Gross Result – 1st Dennis Harvey, 2nd Glenn Grange, 3rd Neil Tait
Closest to the hole in 2 on the 9th – Ronald Thompson. Closest to the hole on the 15th – Neil Tait
