SRGC Duck Race, 12th December 2009
The first session of indoor coaching was held at the Orkney Golf Club on Wednesday night, despite there being a small turnout a great 2 hours was had by all.
Erik was on hand to offer his coaching skills, and Brian had a laptop and video equipment for anyone that wanted to have their swing videoed and analysed. This proved to be great as until you see your swing it`s hard to see where improvements can be made. We must point out that the videoing is optional so if you wish not to have it that is fine. Anyone that decides to go for the videoing we will create a file for them so they can see their progress over the winter season.
So come on everyone dont miss out on the chance to improve your golf over the Winter months,
April P.B.Wylie
May P.B.Wylie
June S.Drever
July B.D.Thomson
August E.I.Donaldson
September B.Kirkness
The Stableford competitions were won overall by Jim Seatter, A.J.Donaldson won the April sweep,Jim Seatter won the June event and W.M.Scott won the September one.

68 Players took part in this years open on a day that started wet and windy but steadily improved and turned into a nice evening.

There has to be a mention for what must be the shot of the day!!
Michael Browns 2nd shot at the 17th hit the bridge and ended in the burn. He decidedit was playable, even though it was in the water, and Jean van der Velt style , but with shoes still on!, he played it out and onto the green but unfortunately it ran off the back. But it was a good shot none the less.
Thank you to all who helped to make this years Open a success.
All the scores can be veiwed on the open draw page.
Parish Cup 2nd August 2009
There was a very good turn out for this new competition with a total of 23 competitors including one woman, well done to Kerry Scott for attending, the teams were divided into 5 Parishes – Hope + Hoxa, Burray, Kirkwall, South Ronaldsay and finally since they were struggling to get enough players Holm was integrated into the Tankerness + Deerness team. Conditions were favourable and this was a stroke play competition played in 3 and 4 ball groups. The net score of all players in each Parish team would be averaged out to determine the winning Parish. Tankerness, Deerness and Holm team one with a very good average net of 68.4. Hope + Hoxa came 2nd with 69.75. Thanks to all who attended and also to Yvonne and Ian for the Barbecue after the event. We would also like to thank Mr & Mrs C Kirkness for donating the cup for this event.
Parish cup extra
Sean Fotheringhame broke the course record during Sundays Parish Cup Competition by returning an impresive Gross 67 Nett 63. He was the holder of the previous record! Well done Sean.
2 Clubs and a Putter 31st July 2009
There was a good turn out for this tonight despite the strong S.E wind and nearly all players managed to get round before the rain came on.
The winner was Martin ( The Bandit ) Wick with a net 36 for 9 holes so well done to him.
2nd was Jim Seatter and third place went to Neil Tait much to the disappointment of Derek Ward who carded the same net score. Never mind Derek better luck next time
Well done to the winners and thanks to all who attended. Good fun was had by all and many now return home to consider whether or not to leave the rest of the clubs out of they’re bag!!
Texas Scramble 10th July 2009
The Annual Texas Scramble Trophy , donated by J.Russel was held on Friday night with good weather with a slight wind from the West.
A good turn out was there with the Teams made up on the night , with Duncan Swannie turning up at the last moment from work to make up the last three.
With some impressive play by all the teams , the two clear contenders for the Competition after 6 holes played was between S.Barnett,J.Robertson and B.Thomson who were only one shot clear of the team W.Scott, B.Banks and D.Swannie.
With both Jim Robertson and Benny going out of bounds with their Tee shots at the seventh, this put a lot of pressure on the Treasurer Stuart Barnett, who easily sent his ball straight down the middle!! The team of Scott Banks and Swannie kept up the pressure and made an easy par at the seventh which put the pressure on Thomson to hole his put for par , which he did with relative ease!
Down the 8th, with good drives by all members from Barnett, Thomson and from Big Easy Robertson, put the pressure on the team who were in second place by still one shot. But they could not match the par by team Barnett, so going down the 9th they were now two shots behind. Both teams were on the green on two, but Captain Scott had to be happy with second place this year, as the Trophy was presented to S.Barnett(now won it twice) Jim Robertson(who has got new clubs) and Benny Thomson.
Everyone really enjoyed this competition and look forward to it again next year.
20.06.09
The midnight Golf fun night was held tonight, 12 players showed up for this fun event. A great night was had by all, a special thanks must go to Charlie & Jackie for traveling all the way from Edinburgh just to play in this event. Conditions were perfect and players were still on the putting green at 11.30pm.
17.06.09
The winner of the Club Championship is Benny Thomson and winner of the nett prize is Derek Ward.
Benny and Erik Donaldson were level on scores after 4 rounds, so a 9 hole play off was to decide the winner. It was a close game with both players keen to be named as Club Champion, however, it was Benny that came out on top.
Captains Prize- 10th May 2009
There was a good turn out for this event with 16 people starting at the same time from 5 different tees. The wind from the West made play difficult and several balls went out of bounds, so good scoring was hard and only one player managed to get below net 70, and that was Neil Tait who won on the day . His gross score of 86 (19) net 67 was three shots better than the runner up who had gross 84 (14) net 70 which was Benny Thomson. In third place was Stewart Fotheringhame who had an excellent 76 (5) Net 71. To make things even more surprising, all the winners came from the same playing group.
Thanks goes to Billy Scott for handing out the special prizes and the free drinks to all the players. The next competition will be the monthly medal, an 18 hole competition and will be played on Sunday 17th, with tee of times of 09.30am and 2.00pm.
